Common questions

We know you will have plenty of questions so to start things off here are a few of the more common ones.

How much do I need to invest?

As you would expect each spin-off company is different. Using some very broad averages, an investment of around $300,000 for a 30% stake makes for a good benchmark. As a rule of thumb, Flinders Partners would then retain 30%, leaving 30% for incentivising management and 10% for an IP return to the researchers.

Can I get involved in management?

Yes, as an investor these may well be within the terms of your investment. Most times investors have great connections and ability – so the investment is usually more than money.

Can I invest in-kind?

Yes you can, for us its about getting the resources to the company and whether its cash or something valuable to the company it is treated similarly. The company will however need cash, so it may need to wait to combine the in-kind with their cash investments before commencement.

Can I invest in a range of the companies?

This is probably best done through our venture company – unIPartners.
